(4) Argumentative Synthesis Paper (70 points)
A research synthesis paper integrates knowledge gained through the article summaries and sometimes within your own related experience. To properly integrate the articles, students must decide on an organizational scheme and then use subsection headers to organize the material.
For this assignment, you are to select a controversial psychology related topic that interests you.For example, you may select a topic related to opposing views on whether or not psychology is a science. Find articles that support it and articles that conflict with it.Summarize your findings with several subsection headers.Compare and contrast your findings. Include subsections on your experience with the topic, your recommendations on the topic, and include any stimulated thoughts you have.
Additionally, you are required to send a one-page proposal on your chosen topic for approval. In this one-page proposal, discuss the topic.Include what you will be looking for and what you expect the findings to show.
The paper should adhere to APA format and be 7- 9 pages in length (does not include title, tables/graphs, and reference page). It is possible that some of the journal summaries may not be incorporated into the synthesis, but students should attempt to integrate as many as possible.

More people are becoming aware of neurofeedback, also known as EEG biofeedback, a drug-free method of treating brain-based diseases like ADHD, anxiety disorders, and autism. Even so, a lot of individuals are still skeptical about neurofeedback’s efficacy. My argumentative synthesis topic will be about whether Neurofeedback therapy is actually beneficial or not. Since neurofeedback promotes neuroplasticity, it may lead to long-term changes in how the brain functions. Despite the fact that numerous individuals have had long-term advantages spanning many months or even years, the study is still inconclusive.
In my paper, I will be discussing why neurofeedback is actually beneficial based on my own EEG biofeedback. I had a chance to do an internship at Full Well Neurofeedback Clinic and participated in three neurofeedback sessions. I will discuss the finding in my EGG levels. In addition to my own session results, I will be gathering data from the Fullwell Neurofeedback clinic of other patients’ sessions. Furthermore, take into account the articles that have previously been written supporting EEG Biofeedback.
After reading a few articles and working at the clinic I believe that neurofeedback is effective. According to recent studies, biofeedback helps with a wide range of specific problems and symptoms, from seizures to anxiety and ADHD. One thing needed to consider in the studies on neurofeedback is that the double-blind model used for drugs is very difficult to do ethically with things like neurofeedback.
When biofeedback was still in its infancy in 1973, studies were conducted to compare neurofeedback’s efficacy to that of pharmaceuticals in treating PTSD and substance dependence in Vietnam veterans. The neurofeedback demonstrably eliminated symptoms within a few days, and the pharmaceutical company forced the institution to stop the trial.
My paper will consist of the background/history, modus operandi, research done, personal and patient results, opposing sides, and findings of neurofeedback.
